1980 The
company with offices in Burbank specialized in door to door sales
with delivery to clients homes.
1982 The Community Assistance Program is created to provide
aid to the victims of the El Salvador Earthquake. At this stage,
La Curacao specializes in small
appliances, jewelry, and electronics.
1983 La Curacao moves to
1313 Olympic Blvd. And in addition to the departments of small
appliances, jewelry and electronics, opens its furniture department.
1984
Export departments are opened for El Salvador and
Guatemala.The operation in these countries at that time was through
different carriers. Today La Curacao
has its own warehouses in El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico
and operates its own home delivery program.
1985 The Community Assistance Program provides aid to the
victims of Mexico's Earthquake. The first Parking Lot Sale takes
place in La Curacao and an
official Credit Department opens.
1989 La Curacao purchases
the location of 1313 W. Olympic Blvd.
1991 The Company builds a warehouse on a newly acquired lot,
allowing La Curacao to carry
much greater variety and quantity of products. The year also saw
the debut of "Recuerdos de mi pais" a highly successful television
program produced by La Curacao and featuring company spokes-person:
Renan Almendarez " El Cucuy"
1992 La Curacao was one
of many Southern California businesses that suffered from the L.A.
riots.
The only location at this time was 1313 W. Olympic. The store was
destroyed in the LA Riots, including all the inventory.
La Curacao re-opens 2 weeks later
with only 10,000 sq. ft. at 1605 W. Olympic.
1993 The 1605 W. Olympic location is expanded from 10,000 to
25,000 sq. ft. The Service Department is opened at the werehouse
to help customers with their repairs and exchange needs.
1994 The Community Assistance Program aids victims of the Los
Angeles Earthquake. The Customer Service department is created as a
separate identity to support the stores and customers by phone.
1995 With the opening of a second location in the Panorama
City Mall, La Curacao made
head-lines as America's first Hispanic-market department store in a
mall. La Curacao inaugurates
this 35,000 sq. ft. location in Panorama City which features a
child-care for customers' kids. La Curacao
purchases the building of 1605 W Olympic and creates
La Curacao Business Center.
1996 La Curacao expands
its Export Department to include Mexico.
1998 Hurricane Mitch ravages Central America.
La Curacao is one of the first
American companies to collect and distribute donations on the
ground. A boeing 747 was leased by La
Curacao to take all donations directly to where they were
needed.
1999 The Los Angeles Store at 1605 W. Olympic expands to
90,000 sq. ft.
2000 La Curacao's third store opens with 105,000 sq. ft. in
the City of South Gate.
2001 La Curacao launches
its very own Spanish Internet Service Provider called
Pasito.com.
Record-breaking crowds attend the opening of the first
Pollo
Campero® restaurant in the United States at La
Curacao's Olympic and Union location. La
Curacao University is inaugurated for the training of our
Associates.
2002 The fourth La Curacao
store opens with 100,000 sq. ft. in Huntington Park.
Curatel
Long Distance Service is first offered to the Latino community. The
Commu-nity Assistance Department beco-mes the La Curacao Children's
Foundation.
2003 La Curacao launches
a loyalty program called Bono®, a points based incentive
Program.
2004 La Curacao organizes
its first New Year's event, giving the community a safe place to
celebrate.
2005 La Curacao will open
its outlet store in Lynwood.
... And San Bernandino.
